Aim: Summary of clinical signs od osteoid osteoma and its treatment with percutaneous radiofrequency ablation (RFA). Comparison of our group of patients and results with data published in literature and evaluation of efficacy, risks and complications.

Method: We treated 20 patients with osteoid osteoma (71% males, 29% females) in the years 2001-2007, average age was 19,2 years. The osteoid osteoma nidi were in various locations. We used the perfused "wet" electrode type Integra/Berchtold Elektrotom HiTT 106 (Plainsboro, NJ, USA).

Results: Complete relief of symtptoms was achieved in 17 cases (85%), 2 patients (10%) had a recurrence of pain and were treated with a second intervention, we were unsuccesful in one case. The clinical success of treatment was 95%. We had technical difficulties in 2 cases (10%) and clinical complications in 2 patients (10%) (1 self-limited skin burn along the needle trajectory, 1 deep burn complicated by abscess).

Conclusion: Percutaneus RFA can replace the classic surgical treatment in most of cases thanks to the low complication rate, high efficacy, minimal invasivity and brief hospitalization.
