Instructions for Authors
1. INTRODUCTION
The Ceska radiologie - Czech Radiology journal is a peer-reviewed periodical publishing original articles from diagnostic imaging, articles for continuing medical education (CME), reviews of topical issues from the field of radiology and diagnostic imaging, results of clinical studies, case reports, reports from congresses and meetings of scientific societies (Radiological Society of the Czech Medical Association of Jan Evangelista Purkyne (CzMA JEP), Czech Society oflnterventional Radiology of CzMA JEP, Czech Neuroradiologie Society of CzMA JEP). The journal reports on new books, includes commentaries on interesting articles, discussions, biographies (anniversaries) of outstanding personalities, personal communications, and letters to the editor. The articles maybe published in Czech, Slovak or English.
Printed articles are a property of the Journal. Reprints of the articles or the parts thereof, tables or figures can be allowed only by agreement of the Editor with the indication of the source.
2. EDITOR-IN-CHIEF

3. MANUSCRIPT
Manuscripts should be written in MS Word (doc, possibly rtf) preferentially. The final version of the manuscript should be printed in one copy, one page per sheet, with double spacing between lines (i.e. 30 lines per page) and with a 12 point font size. The Enter key should only be used at the end of the paragraph! Each page should be numbered with Arabic numerals at the footer. The manuscript must contain the following parts, each of which shall commence on a separate sheet:
- Title page
- Abstract and key words in the English language
- Maintextofthe publication (including Acknowledgements where applicable)
- List of references
- Figure legends in the English language (figures, graphs, tables)
- Figures
The manuscript should include a CD with an identical version of the text and the illustrations in electronic format.
3.1. Title page
The title page of the basic article types should contain:
- concise and unambiguous title of the paper; short subtitles maybe used if necessary
- full names of authors (first names and surnames)
- official names and addresses of the establishments of the individual authors
- major statement (a single sentence summarising the content and the significance of the article in English languages)
- the name, titles, and address of the contact person for correspondence, including his/her telephone, fax, and e-mail
- where applicable, the source of financial support for the study (grant, company etc.)
3.2. Structured abstract and keywords
Structured abstract not exceeding 1 page (maximum 250 words) shall include, in the following order:
- Objective: one to two sentences giving the background and the objective of the study
- Materials and Methods: a description of the studied cohort, methods used
- Results: the most significant results expressed numerically with an indication of statistical significance
- Conclusion: what is implied by the study in question In reviews and case studies, the abstract need not be structured as shown above.
Key words in a number of 3-5, in alphabetical order, should be inserted below the text of the Abstract (in terms according to the Medical Subject Heading List at http://www.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/MBrowser.html
3.3. Text and length of publication
Style common in journals of biomedicine is recommended. Original articles should be structured in the following order:
- Introduction
- Materials and Methods
- Results
- Discussion
- Conclusion
The length of the manuscript shall be given by paper type:
- Review: maximum length of manuscript shall be 20 pages, i.e. 5000 words, not exceeding 30 references
- Original Article/Special Focus/Technical Innovation/ State of the Art/Radiologic-Pathologic Correlations: maximum text length: 20 pages, i.e. 5000 words, not exceeding 35 references
- Case Report: maximum length: 10 pages, i.e. 2000 words, not exceeding 15 references
- Commentaries: maximum length: 4 pages
- Reports on scientific meetings and conferences: maximum length: 2 pages
- Book reviews: maximum length: 2 pages, i.e. 500 words
- Letters to the editor/Discussion: maximum length: 2 pages, i.e. 500 words, not exceeding 7 references
- Reports/Personal Communications: maximum length: 2 pages
- Anniversaries of outstanding personalities (only 60, 70, 80, 90 years): maximum length - 3 pages + photographs.
As a matter of principle, all abbreviations must always be defined within the brackets where first used in the text (except the most common abbreviations, such as CT or US). In abstracts, titles, and captions to illustrations, abbreviations should be used very cautiously.
The names of instruments and drugs should be accompanied with the names and locations of manufacturers stated within the brackets. If possible, in addition to trade names of the preparations, generic names should always be included, too.
3.4. Statistics
Used statistical procedures should be described in detail for readers to be able to clearly identify method of result processing. You can discuss the applied methods, the experimental design or, where applicable, randomisation. Uncommon statistical abbreviations and symbols should be explained.
3.5. Tables
Each table should be double-spaced and on a separate sheet. The tables should be numbered with Arabic numerals. The captions to the tables should be listed on a separate sheet. Explanatory notes should be included as footnotes and the abbreviations used should be explained.
3.6. Graphs and figures, including photographs
- Graphs should be submitted in MS Excel electronic format and numbered consecutively
- Only illustrations in electronic format and sufficient resolution (see below) shall be admitted.
Illustrations shall not include personal data, numbers of medical records, or numbers of medical examinations. No identification of the human subjects in the pictures is allowed. The editor requires the image files be supplied on CDs in JPG, TIF, BMP or CDR (Corel Draw) format. Please do not insert figures and graphs in the environment of a word processor (MS Word)! Each diagram or figure should be saved on a CD as a separate file and named based on its order in the text, e.g. FIGURE 1B.JPG. Minimum resolution of the image files shall be 300 dpi (dots per inch), with colour format RGB or CMYK. For image files in JPG format, low or no compression ("high quality") is recommended. Image files should not be supplied in MS PowerPoint format!
- In microphotographs mention the magnification and type of method used.
- Legends to graphs, figures, and tables should be on a separate sheet containing sufficient information to make the illustrations legible without text. Abbreviations should be used only if they may not be avoided.
- Figures, graphs, or tables should not be inserted in the text of the manuscript directly; if necessary, please indicate their appropriate placing in the final text on the margin of the printed manuscript only.
3.7. References
In accordance with the Vancouver Declaration, the list of references should include all authors up to a total number of five authors; if there are more than five authors, list the first three followed by et al. (surname and the first letter of the first name/names). The list of references should be typed double-spaced on a separate sheet and numbered consecutively in the order in which they appear in the text (not in the alphabetical order).
Journal article references should be written in the following order: name, title, year, volume (number, where applicable), first and last page numbers of paper.
Book references: author, title, edition, place of issue, name of publisher, year of publishing; if the book has several authors, the main author may be stated followed by etal.
Identify references in the text by Arabic numerals in round brackets (), not by author′s name only.

4. SUBMISSION OF MANUSCRIPT
Send one hardcopy of the completed manuscript, along with a CD in a suitable and firm envelope by registered mail to the above address.
For each manuscript enclose an accompanying letter containing:
- a) For which journal the manuscript is designated
- b) Statement that manuscript was not sent to another journal for consideration or publication
- c) Written statement of all authors confirming their approval to the content of the paper and to publication in the version as supplied
- d) In case of clinical studies and studies including experiments on animal subjects, a statement that the protocol was approved by the Ethical Committee of the relevant authority; at the same time, the description of the methods should contain a statement "The protocol was approved by the Ethical Committee of…"
- e) Number of pages, tables and figures
- f) The full name and address, telephone number, fax number, and e-mail of the contact person
