Aim: The aim of the study is to asses contribution and possibilities of contrast enhanced ultrasound in assessment of Crohn disease activity.

Method: Sixty one patients underwent colonoscopy (as reference method), native bowel ultrasound examination and contrast enhanced ultrasound examination with further software quantification analysis.

Results: The calculated values of sensitivity/specifity in determining Crohn disease bowel inflammation activity by native ultrasound were 83,3/77,8%. The contrast enhanced ultrasound by using Peak Intensity parametr reached sensitivity/specifity 90,7/83,7%. Statistically significant difference was confirmed also by using subjective evaluation of bowel wall contrast enhancement and quantification parametr Time to Peak.

Conclusion: Contrast enhanced bowel ultrasound proved higher sensitivity and specificity compared to native examination and its use could be contribution in ambiguous or borderline results of native examination.
