Aim: Examination of cerebrovascular reserve capacity (CVRC) of brain in patients with obliterative diseases of the major cerebral arteries is one of the basic procedures employed before revascularization bypass surgery.
Method: The authors present the examination method and examples of results from patients examined under baseline conditions and after stress induced by carbon dioxide. Single photon emission computer tomography (SPECT) examination was subsequently administered.
Results and conclusion: Based on a comparison of the results from both procedures, patients having reduced or strongly reduced CVRC were indicated for revascularization bypass surgery.
