Aim: To evaluate own experience with the imaging of the gynecological tumors with 18F-FDG-PET/CT including full diagnostic computed tomography and to analyze its optimal clinical indications.
Method: 179 females underwent (mean age 54.7 y., ranging 35-83 years) examination within the sample of following 6000 18F-FDG-PET/CTs, 327 procedures were performed in total. The indications were primary staging, restaging or therapy response evaluation due to the gynecological tumor. Computed tomography was performed as full diagnostic isotropic imaging including reconstruction of lung high resolution images to be able to assess lung parenchyma changes.
Results: During analysis were found 100% of restaging indications in ovarian cancer (215 procedures) including 21 patients with more than two procedures; the primary staging of the cervical carcinoma was performed only in two cases (4.3%), the increased percentage of primary staging was found in the group of endometrial cancer (2/12 e.g. 16%).
Conclusion: According our own experience, the most important indication of the 18F-FDG-PET/CT we found in the evaluation of the ovarian cancer recurrence. The primary staging of the malignancies of the uterus is possible in selected cases, but the most important is also restaging.
