Aim: To compare the quality of the first pass MR angiography (MRA) performed with different paramagnetic contrast agents and to evaluate if the quality of MRA in the groups is sufficient for optimal therapeutic planning.

Method: We compared 38 examinations, which were performed with different paramagnetic contrast agent - Gadovist (2 groups with amount of contrastn agent 10 ml a 8 ml), Multihance (10 ml), Vasovist (10 ml). The examinations were choosen randomly, age of the patients was from 26 to 86, mean 61 years. 1,5 T MR machine (Siemens Magnetom Avanto) was used for the examinations with standard examination protocol. Objective evaluation of the quality of MRA was assesed by postcontrast increase of signal intensity comparison. Subjective evaluation of tha quality of MRA was assesed by six blinded evaluators. Anova test and analysis of variance were used for statistic assessment.

Results: There was a statistically significant difference in postcontrast increase of signal intensity in abdominal aorta between both groups of Gadovist compared with the group of Multihance and Vasovist in objective evaluation. Subjectively there was no significant difference in the quality of MRA.

Conclusion: The quality of all MRA examinations performed with contrast agents mentioned above was sufficeint to obtain adequate diagnostic information, subjectively there was no statistically significant difference in the quality of MRA. Gadovist-enhanced MRA was the best evaluated objectively.
