Percutaneous intervention in vascular complications after orthotopic liver transplantation - our mid-term resultsOriginal article
- IKEM, Praha
Aim: To present our own experience with percutaneous intervention in vascular complications in patients after orthotopic liver transplantation.
Method: From 1998 to 2009 we performed in our institution percutaneous transluminal angioplasty in 20 patients with vascular complications after liver transplantation. Hepatic artery stenosis was treated in 18 cases, in 14 patients with stent placement. Both inferior vena cava stenosis in one patient and stenosis of portal vein also in one patient were treated with stent implantation.
Results: Technical success in our group of patients was 100 %. Dissection of the treated artery developed in one patient without consequence on the effect of the procedure. All other procedures were without complications. Restenosis was not diagnosed during the average 2.7 year (1 month - 9 years) follow-up time.
Conclusion: Percutaneous angioplasty is safe method in treatment of vascular complications after liver transplantation. PTA with stent placement in the stenosis of celiac and hepatic artery has high technical success rate and promising mid-term results.
