Aim: To evaluate the experience with 18F-FDG-PET/CT in benign and malignant variants of phaeochromocytoma and paragaglioma.
Material and methods: 12 patients underwent 18F-FDG-PET/CT during five years. Phaeochromocytoma or paragaglioma was confirmed in all of them.
Results: Non-metastatic phaeochromocytoma was found in 7 cases, one metastatic respectively. 3 cases of malignant paraganglioblastoma with metastases were found and one paraganglioblastoma in combination with medullary carcinoma of the thyroid. In all tumors, the extreme level of 18F-FDG uptake was expressed.
Conclusion: In tumors arising from autonomous ganglia, the high level uptake of 18F-FDG is present obviously, then the 18F-FDG-PET/CT is the valuable method of their detection.
