Aim: An overview of current opinions on the indications and CT of the urinary system in children.

Conclusion: CT examination in children faces the problem of high radiation dose. Children are more sensitive to radiation and have different sensitivity of organs from adults as well as their spectrum of diseases is different. It is necessary to use pediatric CT protocols and use automats to optimize the dose during scanning. New improved reconstructors based on iterative data processing improve CT image, so it is possible to significantly reduce the radiation dose during CT examinations. The first indication rule for children: avoid, if possible, CT examination and where it is possible use high quality ultrasound and MR.
Current indications for uro-CT in children are congenital malformations, severe or complicated urinary tract infections, trauma, obstructive uropathy, complicated or unclear urolithiasis, tumors and their differential diagnosis, hematuria, renovascular disease.
