Ultrasonography-guided PTA of haemodialysis fistulaCase report

In this article we would like to present the first angioplasty of haemodialysis fistula under ultrasonography guidance which was performed in our department. PTA (percutaneous transluminal angioplasty) of a draining vein of a native fistula was indicated in a patient who was included in hemodialysis program. As contrast media administration was contraindicated for previous severe adverse effect, we decided to perform PTA under ultrasonography guidance. The procedure was successful; the effect was proven both by ultrasonography and measurement in dialysis. Our experience shows that ultrasonography provides good visualization of instruments and therefore ultrasonography-guided PTA is possible.
