MR imaging features of the breast infiltrating lobular carcinomaState of the art

This article summaries radiological features and characteristics of the breast invasive lobular carcinoma on MRI. Infiltrating lobular carcinoma (ILC) is the second most common type of the breast cancer in women. It is more frequent multifocal, multicentric or bilateral occurrence that is not always well detected by conventional imaging methods. Therefore, in many institutions in recent years, it used for staging ILC in addition to the conventional methods MRI. According to the available literature there is no evidence suggesting increase in survival for ptients with ILC due to the performance of MRI. The detection of additional lesions or larger extent of the disease on MRI currently still requires a change of treatment and it prevents more re-excisions and further recurrence ILC.
