The importance of MR examination in the diagnosis of chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitisReview article

The aim of the article is to draw attention to a rare condition - chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitis (CRMO). The main aim is to discuss the importance of using WBMRI (whole body MRI) in diagnostic algorithm.
CRMO is a typical disease in childhood and adolescence with an incidence of 1 case in 1 million children per year. Despite the word "multifocal" in its name, CRMO has often only unifocal clinical manifestation. MRI and especially WBMRI with large field of view and high sensitivity for bone marrow oedema contributes conclusively to correct diagnosis. We can say from our experience that WBMRI is also a suitable method for treatment response evaluation. Authors believe WBMRI can replace diagnostic bone biopsy in some cases.
Nevertheless, there is no specified recommendation on how long to follow up the patient with WBMRI.
