The paper leads with a historical overview to the development of 1H MR spectroscopy method in the Czech Republic, namely in the Institute for Clinical and Experimental Medicine, during 30 years and shows possibilities of its applications in the research as well as in the clinical practice. The first part is dedicated to the 1H MR spectroscopy of the brain.
