The paper aims to present the current approach to the evaluation of bladder tumours using magnetic resonance imaging. The authors give a newly implemented system for scoring bladder wall involvement and provide an overview of the recommended techniques in the multiparametric examination for the VI-RADS system. This system of scoring bladder cancer involvement has been mentioned in the guidelines of the European Urological Association as an effective tool for distinguishing the depth of bladder tumour invasion.
Part of the article is a recommended examination scheme valid for 1.5 T and 3 T magnetic resonance devices.
The next part presents the VI-RADS system, its components and the method of evaluation, distinguishing advanced bladder tumours from less severe findings. The article includes MR scans obtained by applying the VI-RADS examination system.
The discussion evaluates the effect of the VI-RADS system, its potential limitations and challenges.
