The aim of this article is to summarize the current knowledge on diffuseidiopathic skeletal hyperostosis (DISH). It is a relatively common disease ofthe spine in the adult population, which is often overlooked or mistaken for adegenerative disease. The increasing prevalence of the disease in thepopulation is related to the increasing incidence of metabolic syndrome andlonger life expectancy. Spinal involvement can lead to compression ofsurrounding structures, neurological symptoms and vertebral fractures.
