The aim of this paper is to present three case studies demonstrating severalinteresting pathologies of the sacroiliac joints (SIJ) that may be encounteredin everyday clinical practice. As the case studies illustrate, thesepathologies are not always considered initially, and diagnosis often requirescomprehensive radiological and laboratory investigations. Given the locationof the SIJ and the load placed upon them, degenerative joint disease is by farthe most common pathology, particularly in older individuals. Other diagnosesare rare. In contrast, degenerative changes are unlikely in younger patients, and in the case of sacroiliac joint pain, thorough examination is essential toidentify and promptly initiate appropriate treatment for any underlyingpathology.
