The glymphatic system and multiple sclerosis The glymphatic system plays a crucial role in clearing toxic substances and metabolic waste from the brain and is currently a subject of intensive research. Advanced MRI techniques enable the identification of structural abnormalities in the brain and the monitoring of changes that may indicate glymphatic dysfunction. His impaired function has been associated with various neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus. Furthermore, several theories propose a potential link between the glymphatic system and the development and progression of autoimmune diseases, such as multiple sclerosis.
Keywords: glymphatic system, multiple sclerosis, choroid plexus, perivascular space.
