Skull vault lesions are often an incidental finding during patient examinations on imaging methods for other diagnostic reasons and usually do not need to have any therapy. If lesions have typical features on imaging methods and we know basic information about the patient, such as his age, medical history and information about any malignant disease, their diagnosis may not be very difficult. Lesions are most often first visualized on computed tomography (CT) due to the large number of CT brain scans performed for various indications, magnetic resonance imaging examination (MRI) is also relatively common. The exception is an eosinophilic granuloma in children, which is usually first visualized on a skull X-ray or on an ultrasound examination. The article presents the most common benign and malignant lesions with their typical features on commonly used imaging methods. Pseudolesions and less common lesions affecting the skull vault are also presented for completing the differential diagnosis.

Keywords: skull vault, differential diagnosis, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging.
