Knee osteoarthritis is a limiting progressive disease with a clear impact on patients' mobility and quality of life. Patients with mild to moderate osteoarthritis who do not respond to conservative approaches and are not suitable candidates for or do not wish to undergo total joint replacement currently have no other treatment options. Genicular artery embolization is a promising new interventional radiology method that aims to fill this gap in treatment. It may also be helpful for patients with chronic pain after total knee replacement who do not respond to conservative treatment.
