Insuficiency fractures are a subtype of stress fractures affecting the pelvic circle. Among the most common types of fractures belong: fractures of sharebone arms, periacetabular fractures and insuficiency fractures of sacral bone (IFS). The most typical sign is a pain localised to the fracture location. Neurological symptoms are rare (about 1 %). Magnetic resonance imaging and scintigraphy are the most useful imaging modalities. The most common method of treatment is conservative therapy based on bed rest and analgetic drugs administration. In the last few years also mini-invasive procedures like transcutanneous screw fixation or bone powder stabilisation (sacroplasty) are used. The authors analyse individual types of fractures, their diagnostics, discuss percutanneous sacroplasty treatment and present case reports solved by themselves.
