The combined imaging of morphology, microstructure and function provides comprehensive information about behavior of the brain tissue. Diffusion weighted imaging is important in the evaluation of cellularity, spectroscopy provides the in vivo metabolite analysis related to the biomembrane building or destruction supplemented by the information about anaerobic glycolysis in hypoxic state of the tumor. Metabolic imaging using PET are able to assess the entire tumor extent (18F-FET, 18F-FDOPA, 18F-FCH), or to assess the grade of dedifferentiation (18F-FDG, 18F-FLT, 18F-FDOPA, 18F-FET). Multiparametric analysis of the tissue characteristic and derived information about tumor phenotype is natural advantage of PET/MRI.
